The Classical Dotted Singing Bowl is a traditional Nepalese instrument forged from a blend of metals using ancient hand-hammering techniques passed down through generations. The signature dotted pattern along the rim and body isn't just decorative — it subtly shapes the harmonic overtones, giving this bowl its distinctive warm, layered resonance.

At 3.5 inches, it's the perfect entry point for beginners and a compact companion for experienced practitioners. Whether you're starting a meditation session, cleansing your space, or simply winding down after a long day, this bowl meets you where you are.

Hand-Hammered

Every bowl is unique. Handcrafted by artisans in Nepal's Kathmandu Valley with traditional methods.

1
Place the Bowl
Rest the bowl on the included cushion or your open palm.
For the fullest sound, use the ring cushion on a flat surface. If holding, keep your fingers flat and open — avoid wrapping them around the bowl as this dampens vibration.
Pro tip: Place on a soft surface. Hard tables can create buzzing.
2
Strike the Bowl
Gently tap the outer rim with the padded side of the mallet.
Hit the upper third of the outer wall at a slight angle. Use a relaxed wrist — it's more of a flick than a hit. The bowl should ring with a clear, sustained tone.
Pro tip: Lighter strikes produce more refined overtones. Start soft.
3
Rim Singing
Run the mallet slowly around the outer rim with steady pressure.
After striking once, press the wooden end of the mallet against the outside rim and draw slow, even circles. Keep consistent speed and pressure — the bowl will build into a continuous singing tone.
Pro tip: Go slow. Speed kills the resonance. Think of stirring honey.
4
Listen & Breathe
Close your eyes and let the sound guide your breath.
As the tone fills the space, slow your breathing naturally. Inhale through the nose, exhale slowly. Let the sound fade completely before striking again. This pause — the silence between sounds — is where the deepest stillness lives.

Common Questions

Absolutely. The 3.5" size is one of the easiest to play. It responds quickly to both striking and rimming techniques, so you'll hear beautiful sound on your very first session. We include a mallet and cushion so you have everything to start.
Our bowls are crafted from a traditional blend of metals commonly used in Himalayan singing bowls. The exact composition varies by artisan, but the alloy typically includes copper and tin as primary components, contributing to the warm, sustained tone these bowls are known for.
Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after use. For deeper cleaning, use a small amount of lemon juice or vinegar on a cloth, then dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh chemicals. Over time, a natural patina develops — most practitioners consider this a feature, not a flaw.
Each bowl is individually handcrafted, so there will be slight natural variations in tone and pitch. The audio gives you a representative idea of the bowl's character. Many customers tell us their specific bowl sounds even richer in person.
Yes — singing bowls have been used in sound healing traditions for centuries. This size tends to resonate with the upper chakras (throat, third eye, crown). It's used by therapists, yoga instructors, and individuals in personal practice worldwide.
